Curriculum Overview

At ILM Primary School, learning is rooted in faith and guided by the principles of Islam.

Our curriculum offers a broad and balanced education that nurtures every aspect of a child’s development academic, spiritual, moral and emotional.

Arabic, Qur’an, and Islamic Studies

Faith lies at the heart of life at ILM.

Pupils take part in regular lessons in Arabic, Qur’an, and Islamic Studies, helping them strengthen their connection to the language of the Qur’an and deepen their understanding of Islam.
Through these studies, children develop a love for their faith, pride in their identity, and a strong moral compass that guides them both within and beyond the classroom.

The National Curriculum

We follow the English National Curriculum, ensuring our pupils receive a high-quality, well-rounded education.

In Literacy, pupils develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through engaging texts and meaningful writing opportunities.

In Maths, children build strong foundations in number, calculation, and problem-solving, developing fluency and confidence in applying their learning to real-life situations.

Both subjects are taught in ways that encourage perseverance, reflection, and gratitude for the knowledge and abilities gifted by Allah.

Exploring the World Around Us

Our topic lessons including history, geography, art and design spark curiosity, creativity and a sense of wonder about Allah’s creation.
Through these subjects, pupils are inspired to explore the world, appreciate its beauty, and understand their place and purpose within it.
Science lessons further nurture awe and reflection, deepening pupils’ understanding of the natural world as a sign of Allah’s greatness.

ICT and Digital Learning

Technology is woven throughout our curriculum to help pupils develop essential digital skills for the modern world.
In Key Stage 2, pupils also enjoy dedicated ICT lessons each week, strengthening their confidence and independence in using technology responsibly and safely.

Physical Education and Wellbeing

Weekly PE lessons promote health, teamwork, and perseverance, encouraging pupils to care for their bodies a trust (amanah) from Allah.
We also place great importance on Personal, Social and Emotional (PSE) development and character building.

Through enrichment activities and themed weeks, pupils are encouraged to live by Islamic values such as honesty, kindness and respect, growing into confident, compassionate individuals who contribute positively to their community and the wider world.
